ADI's MAX86178 simplifies the design of wearable remote patient monitoring (RPM) devices by using a three-system vital sign AFE to measure four vital signs. This single-chip AFE combines three measurement systems (optical, ECG, and bioimpedance) to obtain four common vital signs: electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), heart rate (ECG or optical PPG), blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂) ) And respiration rate (using BioZ). The device allows synchronized optical PPG and ECG timing to be used for derived health indicators.

The triple system AFE integrates three clinical-level subsystems into one IC, and combines optical PPG subsystems to measure heart rate and SpO₂, single-lead ECG subsystems, and bioelectric potential and bioimpedance (BioZ), instead of discrete implementation of measuring respiration Rate of the subsystem. By packing these multiple functions into a 2.6mm x 2.8mm package, it allows the use of small vital signs equipment.

"By integrating three healthcare subsystems on a silicon chip, ADI builds on its DNA and provides this sensor fusion product," said Andrew Burt, executive business manager of Maxim Integrated's industrial and healthcare business. Affiliated to ADI. "This AFE resonates in the medical community because it provides new possibilities for chronic disease management, infectious disease diagnosis, and remote monitoring. MAX86178 supports small body-worn devices to improve medical care by keeping people away from the hospital Health services and reduce costs."
