Huawei has taken a step closer to bringing a smartwatch with blood pressure and ECG sensors to market. According to MyDrivers, the company has received approval for both sensors from the Food and Drug Administration of Guangdong Province in China. Supposedly, Huawei intends to use these sensors in smartwatches, which would be a first for the company.

In May, Huawei stated that it would release a smartwatch with blood pressure and ECG capabilities before the end of the year. While that has not come to pass yet, Huawei has also certified such a device with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Based on Huawei's EUIPO submission, this smartwatch is the Watch D, which may arrive alongside the Watch GT 3 and the FIT 2.

The approval of these sensors brings Huawei closer to releasing a smartwatch like the Watch D, in China at least. Currently, few smartwatches offer medical-grade blood pressure and ECG functionality, although some competitors have received similar approvals from comparable bodies. Reputedly, Huawei remains on track to deliver a smartwatch that supports blood pressure and ECG monitoring, with the device due sometime this quarter.
