India’s startup ecosystem is thriving. The country is home to over 100 Unicorns and international startup exhibitions like VivaTech feature Indian startups as their main guests. But how’s India looking regarding healthtech startups?
At the moment there are over 3,500 healthtech startups in India spanning from platforms helping to monitor health conditions, apps using AI to detect illnesses and diseases, platforms connecting patients with doctors, and much more. Those startups have received over 2.2 billion in funding just in 2021.
In this article, we have a look at five very promising healthtech startups from India to watch in 2022.
Eka Care is a digital platform allowing over 20 million users to connect with doctors, schedule medical appointments, store medical records – including COVID vaccination data – and schedule teleconsultations. Since May, through the Eka mobile app, it is also possible to measure your heart rate.
Medical Labs can upload digitally the results of blood tests and other exams. Patients are then able to find the results on their profile – both available on the Eka Care website or on the app. Accessing doctors and medical practitioner is the key stay healthy and living a longer life. With Eka Care, a larger number of people, even those living in the most remote regions are able to do so.
BluSemi is a healthtech startup from India that has recently launched the EYVA. The EYVA is a small and handheld device that can monitor six different vitals, including heart rate, glucose level, oxygen level, and blood pressure without any invasive procedure.
All you need to do with EYVA, is hold it with two hands. The device will gather data that will be available on BluSemi app. EYVA was one of the best healthtech devices seen at VivaTech last month and it went sold out on BlueSemi website very fast. If you wish to buy the EYVA device, for now, you can only preorder it and wait.
Sunfox was launched in 2016 as a Research and Development Lab in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand with the aim of creating innovative technologies. The Spandan, portable ECG device, by Sunfox is one of these. It is one of the smallest and best ECG machines available on the market and it can also assist you by monitoring cardiac conditions, diagnosing an arrhythmia, and monitoring your heart rate.
It is not just designed for personal use, it can also be useful for doctors that can use it both for remote and in-person diagnosis. Originally launched with the idea of helping monitor heart conditions of those living in rural areas of India, the Spandan by Sunfox has been used also in other parts of India and other areas of the world.
Niramai Health Analytix is a deep-tech healthcare company that uses machine learning for breast cancer screening. Founded in July 2016 by Dr. Geetha Manjunath and Ms. Nidhi Mathur. Niramai has so far raised a total of $7M from institutional investors from India, Japan, and Singapore.
Nimrai uses a radiation-free technology called Thermalytix. It is a smart combination of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and thermographic images for breast cancer screening. The images collected are stored in the cloud and the algorithms along with machine learning and artificial intelligence are able to complete an early and accurate breast cancer screening.
Early-stage screening is the key to survival from breast cancer. Niramai technology which in March, received approval by the FDA for its system to be used in the USA too, could allow more women to be screened for breast cancer more often. Even if according to several studies “the benefits of breast cancer screening far exceed the radiation risks.” having a radiation-free solution could really make a difference for women.
VivaLyf Innovation was launched in 2021 by Duvvuru Varshitha Reddy and Vimal Kumar with the aim to use technology to address some of the world’s most important healthcare issues. One of those is for sure diabetes. There are over 400 million people suffering from it and those need a safe way to measure their glucose level. The procedure to measure the glucose level is a bit invasive – as it requires needles – and it might lead to infections too.
VivaLyf believes it could offer a solution with its smart glucose meter. All you need to do with VivaLyf device is place your thumb on the device and it will measure it with an accuracy of 94-97%. The company is currently raising capital to bring the device to the market.
